June 2022 Wine Club Valravn wines
06/02/2022
The wines this month are from Sonoma, California:  Zinfandel, Cabernet and Chardonnay.

The Zinfandel is the "main" wine and has been based on old, bush-pruned vines averaging 40 years old (some over 100) across Sonoma county’s best appellations including Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, and Russian River Valley AVAs.  A classic pairing with Zinfandel is BBQ.  I paired this wine with a fun appetizer that you can serve when grilling out; Barbecue Chicken Bruschetta, it is a unique twist on the typical tomato Bruschetta.

The Chardonnay grapes are hand-harvested from select vineyards - roughly one third each Sonoma Coast, Russian River, and Carneros AVAs.  The wine was aged in Stainless Steel Tanks and Neutral Oak.  Citrus and Topical notes really shine in this wine.  The Lemon notes in the wine really came out with the Drunken Lemon Cream Pasta dish I paired it with.

The Cabernet is the red compliment this month. The Grapes hail from Sonoma County vineyards, including the sub-appellations of Dry Creek Valley, Moon Mountain, Sonoma Valley, and the cooler Knights Valley.  Cabernets pair fantastically with Steak.  In my herb garden, Cilantro is growing like crazy, are all of my other herbs.  So, I made a Cilantro, Oregano, Chive marinade for the steak and grilled it.  The dish was super easy to make and made use of my plethora of herbs.
