Vino Mas August 2022 Wine Club
08/01/2022
This month we are drinking the wines of Spain.  The main wine is a Garnacha and the white is a Garnacha Bianca.  Garnacha is the same grape as Grenache, it is just called Garnacha in Spain.  The red Compliment wine is a Tempranillo, which is the "king" red variety in Spain.  All three of these wines are lighter and fruity, which pairs well with Summer and hot weather.

Two of the recipes I used zucchini which is abundant right now in everyone's gardens and they are both vegan dishes if you omit the cheese.  The Panzanella Salad also uses the cucumber and tomatoes that we all seem to have overflowing.  I love all the fresh veggies and herbs that August brings as well as the hot weather wines to go with them.

The Garnacha has lovely aromas of cherries and blackberries and black pepper on spicy backdrop. This is an intense, fresh and fruity wine with well-balanced tannins and pleasing minerality, that went well with the Panzanella Salad.  I put this wine in the Fridge 15min before I poured it, a little chill was great on the wine. I also topped my salad with a bit of parmesan cheese, which in my opinion, cheese goes with everything! Recipe to pair with the Garnacha: www.vinomas.com/Grilled-Eggplant-Panzanella-Salad-Garnacha

I paired the Garnacha Bianca with twist on the classic Shrimp Scampi. I made a Cilantro Lime Scampi that was so good with the Garnacha Bianca.  The lime and herbal flavors brought out the lime and grapefruit flavors of the wine.  I topped noodles with the Scampi, but you can eat the shrimp by itself as a side dish or use it as an appetizer.  Recipe to pair with the Garnacha Bianca:  www.vinomas.com/Cilantro-Lime-Shrimp-Scampi-Garnacha-Bianca

The Tempranillo is the red compliment this month.  This is a red grape that is native to Spain.  Tempranillo can be earthy and have higher acidity than many wines, but this one is on the fruity side. I paired this with a zucchini, black bean and rice skillet.  If you omit the cheese this is a Vegan dish and is super easy.  It is a one pot dish. Recipe to pair with the Tempranillo: www.vinomas.com/Zucchini-Black-Bean-Rice-Skillet-Tempranillo
