Vino Mas Feb Wine Club

Out of all the wine regions in the world, French wines tend to be the ones that most people steer away from. The labels are confusing, they show the region, not the varietal, therefore many people have no idea what is actually in the bottle. This month we are highlighting wines from France: A Pinot Noir from Languedoc, a Syrah/Grenache Red Blend from Languedoc and a Viognier from the Rhone. All three of these wines are great, and perfect for everyday drinking, as well as having with cheese boards and/or meals.

The recipes that I paired with the wines are below. I paired the Red Blend with a caramelized mushroom soup. Garlic, cream, and fresh thyme join meaty caramelized mushrooms and diced onions for a rich, fragrant bowlful of homemade goodness. I love mushrooms and the soup used several different kinds. The meaty, earthy, savory notes in the soup complemented the Syrah/Grenache perfectly.

This easy salmon recipe that I paired with the Pinot Noir is rubbed with a spice blend, quickly seared on one side and then baked in the oven until done while you get the rest of your meal together. The sweetness from the brown sugar and cinnamon brought out the fresh fruit notes in the Pinot Noir.

Karen made the dish to go with the Viognier. These Korean tacos are a medley of explosive flavors and textures in each mouthwatering bite! They are loaded with juicy, caramelized Beef Bulgogi, topped with vibrant, refreshing Asian Pear Mango Slaw and drizzled with silky, cool Gochujang Crema. The Beef marinade, Slaw and Crema be made ahead of time. The fruit and lime slaw brings out the fresh fresh fruitiness of the Viognier. These Tacos were amazing, thanks Karen for sharing!

Laurent Miquel Pere & Fils Syrah / Grenache Blend

NOTES: Typical southern French blend with dominant spicy Syrah and juicy full Grenache. This wine offers a ripe nose of red fruits, with delicious mocha herbs and spices. The palate is mellow with intense berry flavors and characteristic rosemary, thyme and floral notes.

Laurent Miquel Solas Reserve Pinot Noir

A French wine with an Irish name. The Irish name was given to it by Neasa, wife of Laurent, and collaborator on this particular beauty. Solas means light in the Irish language. And that was the aim with this range. To create a wine that is completely distinct but still carried a lightness in every drop.

NOTES: Solas Pinot Noir is a well-balanced, food-friendly wine with medium body and light, bright berry flavors – red cherry, raspberry and blackberry. Smooth on the palate with aromas of garrigue strawberries and rosemary and hints of Indian spiced tea on the finish.

Maison Les Alexandrins Viognier

NOTES: This wine opens up with a precise and very aromatic nose, characteristic of Viognier grape variety, with notes of citrus and exotic fruit. Perfectly balanced on the palate, it reveals a beautiful freshness and a very present acidity which gives it a very "Northern" character.
