Vino Mas August Wine Club: Wines from Joyce Winery

"Rocky soils, strong winds and heavy marine influence define our wines. We believe our wines should be a reflection of the terroir and not the cellar. Organic farming practices and practicing sustainability in all aspects of production is imperative. We avoid all additives at all cost in our pursuit of the greatest expression of terroir. To produce these types of wines it requires a fanatical attention to detail. We are committed to doing so in order for our customers to receive wines of the utmost purity. Our ultimate goal is to create wines that are a transparent reflection of our home here in Monterey County." Winemaker Russell Joyce
The main red this month is Joyce Syrah: Our food theme this month is Peaches! With peaches in season, what is better than with summer weather than wine and food that is made with fresh fruit. Peaches are so versatile, they are great by them selves, in salads, in desserts, in drinks and are great with grilled or smoked foods. I paired the Syrah with grilled bone-in pork chops with smoked paprika and chili powder topped with a fresh peach salsa. The wine has bold flavors of dark fruit and has a smoke note that complemented the smoked paprika and chili powder rub. The bright fresh notes of the salsa brought out the brightness of the wine. This Syrah will pair with anything that is smoked on the grill or with a smoky rub on the meat.
The red complement is Joyce Pinot Noir: Deb's notes on this pairing. "Peach season is upon us, and I just happen to have a wonderful lug of Colorado peaches at my disposal. I wanted something simple and fast for our Saturday night and this peach, prosciutto and goat cheese flatbread pizza was perfect. The Joyce Pinot Noir has a wonderful balance of red berries and hibiscus flavors that matches the sweetness of the fresh peaches. It's juicy fruit profile cuts through both the saltiness of the prosciutto and the creaminess of the tangy goat cheese, almost cleansing the palate between bites. Adding in the arugula helps bring out the earthy undertones and the balsamic glaze coaxes out the fruitiness of the wine. It is a beautifully balanced pairing where the wine's light body and soft tannins elevate every savory, sweet, and tangy bite without ever overpowering the dish. This wine is just an easy drinking wine and everything a summer Pinot Noir should embody."
The white this month is Joyce Albarino: This super-fast and healthy smothered chicken was great with the Joyce Albarino. This wine is crisp, refreshing and delish, it has lots of peach notes, which paired nicely with the grilled peaches in the dish. The Brie cheese adds a creamy texture that complements the grilled peaches beautifully. The dish was so easy and light, perfect for a hot summer night dinner.
Enjoy!
